1967-1970 Kapena Falls

by Debbie
(New Jersey)

We used to swim here all the time while living in Hawaii during our teens. Parents were military and it was great fun at the falls. Not far from here, if I remember correctly, was a place called Jackass Ginger which was a place to slide down. I believe it was a half lava tube or something. GREAT fun! No mosquitos or trash back then. It was beautiful.

No Mozzies Or Trash?
by: World of Waterfalls

I can only imagine how different O'ahu must've been back then. I'd bet leptospirosis wasn't as much of a problem back then either.

It's too bad that places in Hawaii have been allowed to degenerate in the name of development and neglect.

I hope the islands can preserve what's left of nature over there.
