2007-01-01 14:20 - Looking Back at Waterfalling in 2006

As the year 2006 winds down, I thought I might share a few thoughts about waterfalling in this past year. In general, it looks like either we got the short end of the climate stick or there is some serious changes in the global climate that we are witnessing. We hope it's just our bad luck and not the doomsday scenario. [read article]

2007-01-06 14:20 - Washington Pages Added

I've just added the Washington region from a trip back in Memorial Day 2006 that was really intended for attending my wife's cousin's wedding. Still, we managed to squeeze in some waterfalling in our limited time there.

The quantity of falls and attractions in these pages is lacking, but I do expect to greatly augment this section of the website with each subsequent trip up to the Pacific Northwest.

Have a look!

2007-01-07 14:21 - Update on the Blue Pool in Maui

This may be a little bit of old news, but it's important enough to re-iterate and pass along...

It has come to my attention that there are locals unhappy with the amount of attention and visitation (and litter left behind) the Blue Pool is getting. Some of them are now actively patrolling the area discouraging (and even threatening) visitors. It is unclear whether the path to the falls from the end of 'Ulaino Road to the rocky boulder path by the ocean is private property. Even if it technically isn't, it doesn't surprise me that some thoughtless visitors might have ruined it for everyone (tourists and locals alike). In either case, you can pretty much consider this attraction kapu (forbidden) and expect resistance if you get there.

2007-01-14 14:22 - O'ahu's up next

Starting this upcoming Wednesday evening, we'll be arriving in Honolulu for our next leg of our Hawaiian waterfall hunt.

Unfortunately, I realize that we have a mild El Nino condition going on. And that means Hawaii might be seeing a drier conditions during their rainy season, which is usually November through March.

We also hope to do an excursion to Molokai, but once again we have concerns about how well its towering sea cliff waterfalls would flow as well as some of its more reliable ones in Halawa Valley.

Apparently, our Christmas trip to Kauai was an indication of the drier-than-normal conditions, but hopefully this trip won't be too adversely affected by this.

2007-01-24 14:22 - Hawaii Updates coming soon...

Based on our last trip to Oahu (with a short excursion to Moloka'i), there's some new information to fold into the Hawaii Region, the travel blog, and some featured articles as well as bloglets.

Some of the more interesting articles I anticipate writing have to do with...

  • Helicopters - Pros and Cons

  • The La'au Point Controversy

  • Private Property vs. Public Lands

Stay tuned...

2007-01-26 14:24 - Molokai Updated

I've updated the page on Moloka'i as it previously contained wrong information pertaining to waterfalls in Halawa Valley (Air Maui does have a tendency to get their facts mixed up). Check it out here.

I've also updated the travel blogs with our day trip onto Moloka'i as well as the Other Attractions of Hawai'i.

Stay tuned for the soon-to-be-released Oahu pages and all associated pages...

2007-01-27 14:26 - A Celebrity (i.e. Cameron Diaz) Sighting on O'ahu

During our recent waterfalling trip to O'ahu, we (at least Julie did) managed to see Cameron Diaz while we were at the Bonzai Pipeline on the North Shore.

Now while I'm not a real big fan of Hollywood and the whole fake culture that surrounds it, I have to admit that such things are pretty unusual and memorable and it was surely a story to tell the folks back at home.

Julie wanted me to blog about it (even though we didn't see any waterfalls that day) and so here it is... [read more]

2007-01-28 08:17 - To Helicopter? Or Not To Helicopter?

It is perhaps one of the most satisfying ways to tour some of the most beautiful spots on earth - most of which are inaccessible to the public. But before you enthusiastically blow off hundreds of dollars per person to go flying, there are issues with them that you should know about... [read more]
