2008-02-04 20:15 - Back from the Big Island

We had just returned from a trip to the Big Island of Hawaii during this past Super Bowl Weekend, but this was one of those trips where there was way too much rain to effectively continue our waterfalling on this island. In fact, the rain was so intense that it resulted in the mayor of the Big Island declaring a state of emergency from all the flooding and landslides in the Hilo area. We were smack in the middle of it and it pretty much limited where we could go and what we could do.

We'll have to come back under more benign conditions than this, but soon I'll be posting a blog about this latest adventure...

I managed to post up the crazy Super Bowl Weekend trip to the Big Island in which we were caught in a massive rainstorm that produced nearly 25 inches of rain!!! Needless to say, we had plenty to talk about on this trip even if it managed to foil our attempt to see new and different waterfalls on the island... [read more]

2008-02-17 20:46 - Added Cedar Creek Falls and Mildred Falls

Well given the Valentine's Day misfortune on Thursday, my mother and I went back to the Julian area on Saturday (Julie stayed home to prepare for a Bridal Show the next day) determined to finally bag Cedar Creek Falls - perhaps San Diego County's finest waterfall. There was still snow left over from that freak storm and the Eagle Peak Road still had a little bit of snow patches left, but boy did we luck out with this waterfall! Not only did we bag the falls we sought after, but the ephemeral Mildred Falls was also going strong. Naturally, these new waterfalls are posted on the website. [read more]

At first you don't succeed, try, try again... That was certainly the theme of our latest weekend escape to the Big Island of Hawaii following our failed Super Bowl Weekend trip. This time, I paid attention to the weather and we showed up under unseasonably sunny conditions as the weather consisted of a Kona Wind (southerly winds typical of the summer), vog, and plenty of sunshine.

That made for a much more successful trip in terms of waterfalling. Check out the latest blog corresponding to this little escapade... [read more]
