Green Deep Pool Waterfall

Green Deep Pool Waterfall

The Green Deep Pool Waterfall is an informal name I'm using for this waterfall (probably about 20m I'm guessing) since it spills right into the so-called Green Deep Pool (which is how a sign there was directly translating the Chinese into English). It's actually a surprise bonus waterfall for us as our guide took us here given the extra time we had at Changbai Mountain. I don't think many foreigners come to see this falls, and there certainly weren't many people crowding this attraction so it was relatively peaceful and quiet.

Our guide said this falls flows year round, which I wasn't sure about given how relatively light the flow of the falls was. But it was conceivable given the stream mixes with some geothermally heated water higher up the mountain to keep the stream from freezing over completely. We also noticed some fish in the Green Deep Pool, which we suspected must've made it further downstream from Heaven Lake. Our guide said the fish were non-native to the area because a former North Korean premiere was said to have released some fish into the previously fishless lake, but somehow managed to thrive in the harsh climate here.

It only took us about 30 minutes to do the round trip walk while checking out the falls. The combination of boardwalk and trail started just beyond the so-called Landscape Restaurant, which was a basketball gymnasium that was used as a large dining hall for lunch.

Directions: The shuttle stop for this excursion was around 2 or 3 stops before the
Changbai Waterfall. I believe it was one stop before the Little Heaven Lake, which contained a shrine and a calm reflective lake as well as a mini gorge.
