Belmore Falls is an impressive two-tiered waterfall with each tier having its own vertical freefall.
There are two overlooks to get decent views of the falls (one of them is the so-called Hindmarsh Lookout though I don't recall which one's which). The first view is shown above. The second view is a little further along the looping one-way road on the way out of the loop, which provides a somewhat more direct view of both tiers of the falls.
There were a few picnic tables here in which Julie and I decided to chill for a bit since it was nice and quiet here. There wasn't a view of the falls from there, but we could certainly walk a few paces to get our fix when we wanted to.
Directions: Belmore Falls is situated in Morton National Park between Fitzroy Falls and Carrington Falls. We took the Illawarra Highway (Hwy 48) west towards Robertson. Then, we took a road south (not sure if it was signposted for the falls or not) into the Yarrawa State Forest before entering Morton National Park. If you missed the turnoff at Roberton, you can still take Pearsons Road off the Hwy 48 towards the falls from the other side.
Once inside the park boundary, there's a spur one-way road that loops past both overlooks before rejoining the main road. West of the spur one-way road, the main road passes between both tiers of the falls over a concrete ford. So I guess if the the falls had ridiculously high flow (which you should be able to tell if you're approaching from the east), then the road might not be passable. So that's something to consider if you're thinking about coming from the west (Pearsons Road).
It bode ill. "I can't remember the last time it rained," the man in Devonport had said. And there I was looking forward to photographing waterfalls. Things change though;...[more]
