Ebor Falls

The Upper Ebor Falls

Ebor Falls is a gorgeous set of waterfalls with a two-tiered upper falls and a plunging lower tier.

It's yet another waterfall in the waterfall-saturated Waterfall Way (this one's situated in the Guy Fawkes River National Park), but somehow this one stood out to us despite the onset of waterfall fatigue.

From the overlook and the trail, we were only able to get a distant view of the plunging lower waterfall. Even though it wasn't necessary, the photo you see of it on this page involved using a telephoto lens (I guess it was my excuse at trying out this lens for later on in the trip when we were headed to Africa).

The Lower Ebor FallsThe upper two-tiered drop looks attractive though the official overlook never really provided that wide-open all-encompassing view of the Ebor Falls without cliffs or vegetation obstructions blocking part of the line-of-sight (but then again, maybe we're just being picky).

One thing we wished that we could do over again, was to come back to this waterfall later in the day or on a cloudy day. The morning light created nasty shadows plus a whole lot of lens flare since we were looking against the sun as well.

The cumulative height of all three tiers is reportedly about 115m, but that seems like a rather generous claim unless there are more tiers not immediately visible from the main two sections that we noticed. Still, it's arguably the most scenic of the many waterfalls on the Waterfall Way.

Directions: Ebor Falls is some 40km west of Dorrigo or 40km east of Wollomombi Falls along the Armidale-Dorrigo Road (also known as Waterfall Way). The signed turnoff is on the north side of the road.

Once inside the Guy Fawkes National Park, we noticed there were actually a pair of car parks for this waterfall. I believe one was for the upper tier and the other was for the lower tier. There's a trail that links the two falls, but I honestly can't remember if we did the trail or if we did the lazy thing and drove between the falls.
