Fernhook Falls is a wide waterfall found just a short detour from the South Western Highway (Hwy 1) north of Walpole. When the falls flow well, it can span the width of its rocky bedrock which I understand is also runnable by kayak or canoe. To get to the falls, take the South Western Highway until you see the signed turnoff taking you onto an unsealed road. This turnoff is roughly 25km west and north of Walpole (there's also a longer more unsealed path that leaves north of Walpole into the Beardmore Ridge) or roughly 88km east of Pemberton. The car park is another 15 minutes or so on the unsealed road to a well-signed area that also allows for camping. The wheelchair accessible path leads to various views of the falls though you're going to have to contend with foliage getting in the way. However, if you continue driving past the car park and over the bridge, you might be able to get nicer views from the other side of the watercourse. When we were there in mid to late June 2006, the falls were struggling. This was despite heavy rains for two straight days. My guess is the falls flows its best around July or August when enough winter rains have saturated its water table to make the falls flow.
