Florence Falls is a gorgeous and very popular year-round waterfall in Litchfield National Park. It sits just beyond the Buley Rockhole, which has its own series of pools and falls. The falls are very popular because it has very easy wheelchair access from the car park to the overlook of the falls as pictured above. From there, you can not only see the dual columns of the main falls, but you can also see upper waterfalls further upstream. We noticed many tour buses here, which testifies to the falls' popularity. If you're more energetic, want to swim, or you just want a different perspective of the falls, you can take a steep but fairly easy trail down to the base of the falls. There is a well developed path with stairs in the steepest parts. The turnoff to the car park is well-signed to the north some 41km west of Batchelor on the Litchfield Park Road. One of the interesting things about this waterfall is that people were swimming at the base of the falls. This was in contrast to all the other waterfalls we had seen in Litchfield and Kakadu, which prohibited swimming due to the presence of saltwater crocodiles. I guess the watercourse of Florence Creek is isolated enough from saltwater access that the crocs don't make it up here - at least not when we were there in early June 2006.
