Josephine Falls is a popular place to go to beat the tropical heat and chill out in the surprisingly cold and clear waters, which originated high up on the slopes of Mt Bartle Frere. Situated in the Wooroonooran National Park, access is from a spur road between Cairns and Innisfail. Take that spur road west until you go past Miriwinni where 2km past is a signed turnoff for the spur road leading to the car park. Once you leave the large car park area, there's a 600m well-developed walking track that leads to the falls, which is viewable from three different sections. If you choose to go swimming here, be careful as the rocks are slippery and flash floods have killed unsuspecting swimmers without warning. In fact, I managed to slip and fall and break my tripod at the base of these falls.
