Josephine Falls

Josephine Falls

Josephine Falls was definitely a memorable waterfall for me, but it wasn't because of its scenic allure.

No, it was because this was the place where I managed to
break a leg of my compact tripod when I slipped and fell trying to get a decent view of the falls (yes, the rocks were quite slippery). And as you can tell from the photos I'm presenting on this page, I don't think it was worth it.

We showed up to the falls at a time when it seemed the stream was in pretty high flow. But I do know that some people swim here to beat the tropical heat and chill out in the surprisingly cold and clear waters (which originated high up on the slopes of Mt Bartle Frere). It's just that I don't think anyone was going to go for a swim on the day we showed up.

The 600m well-developed walking track leads to the falls encompassing three different overlooks each showing sections of the falls as well as different angles and perspectives.

Directions: Josephine Falls is situated in the Wooroonooran National Park where the access road is from a spur road between Cairns (pronounced like "CANS") and Innisfail.

More specifically, we drove north about 16km from Innisfail along the Bruce Highway (Hwy 1). Then, we turned left onto the Bartle Frere Rd, followed it to Price Rd which then became Biggs Rd. Eventually, there's a signed turnoff onto a spur road ending at the car park.
