Millaa Millaa Falls

Millaa Millaa Falls

Of all
Australia Waterfalls, Millaa Millaa Falls could very well have graced more calendars, posters, and post cards than any other.

There's something to be said about colorful tropical foliage surrounding the 20m or so falls. Apparently tour companies think so too because it seemed like we were constantly sharing the falls with tourists from tour vans and buses as well as with locals.

As far as we were concerned, the falls was the last (or first depending on which direction you go) along the 17km Waterfall Circuit that also included Ellinjaa Falls and Zillie Falls. However, there are plenty more waterfalls in the Atherton Tablelands region surrounding this circuit, and it easily took us more than a day to see as many of the falls as we could. Nonetheless, this one was arguably the most scenic of all them all.

Since the sun was out during our May 2008 visit, we figured out that the best time to photograph Millaa Millaa Falls was at midday (around noon) because the shadows had minimal effect at this time. The photo you see above was taken at that time. At any other time of day, shadows creep in thereby compromising the quality of photographs in one way or another. Of course if it was cloudy, then we could've done all sorts of things with the falls given the even lighting.

Directions: The Waterfalls Circuit (Theresa Creek Rd) is about 57km west of Innisfail along the Palmerston Hwy. The other end of the loop drive is another 1.5km further west of the first turnoff on the right.

Millaa Millaa Falls is 2km north of the second turnoff from the Palmerston Hwy onto Theresa Creek Rd. There are plenty of signposts marking the way to further guide you.
