Minnamurra Falls

The Upper Minnamurra Falls

Minnamurra Falls is an impressive two-tiered waterfall nestled deep in the serene Minnamurra Rainforest just a few minutes inland from Kiama. There is a very well established boardwalk that takes you past interpretive signs talking about various aspects of the rainforest. The path is so well-established that wheelchair access is available for most of the lower loop.

But to get to the falls, you have to get to the opposite end of the loop then walk up a steep hill that will leave you huffing and puffing. You'll be passing over the top of Lyrebird Falls (can't photograph it due to the position of the track) as well as passing by the lookout for the Lower Falls.

The Lower Falls used to be the main tourist draw to the area until a landslide in 1989 cut off access to the base of the falls. Your view of it is now from the top down and it's a rather unsatisfying view at best.

The waterfall spur track terminates at the Upper Falls, which is pictured above. Even though this tier of the waterfall lacks the height and drama of the lower one, it's still pretty good and worth the effort to get there (IMHO).
