The Sheep Creek Cascade lies on Sheep Creek, which provides the drinking water for the facilities at the Cedar Grove Lodge area. The trail to the falls follows an old shepherds route called the Don Cecil Trail. I reckon this is how the cascade and the creek got its name.
You don't have to walk the entire length of the trail to see the cascade however. You only need to walk about 1.6 miles return from the Cedar Grove Lodge area (near the Sentinel Campground) to the bridge by the falls. Be careful as you cross Hwy 180 to access the gradually climbing trail. During the climb, you'll get nice views of the Monarch Divide as you rise above most of the pine trees at the base of the valley. You'll also get gorgeous views of Kings Canyon (perhaps better than the signed Canyon View since you're higher in elevation on the Don Cecil Trail) on the way back to the trailhead.
