INTRODUCTION

Toraille Falls was one of the easier waterfalls we were able to visit given that it was well signed with a pretty roomy car park (for a change). After getting through the entrance hut and paying the entrance fee, we walked the short distance through a small botanical garden to the waterfall, which was fronted by man-modified plunge pool designed for a dip beneath the falls. I think the falls itself might be around 7 or 8m tall (though I recalled somewhere I had read it was said to be 10m, but that might be generous).

As you can see from the photo above, we showed up in the afternoon, and it didn't seem like a very good time to visit the falls given the extreme contrast between the light on only part of the falls and the the shadows everywhere else. Perhaps midday might have been best where shadows would be at a minimum.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS

To get here from Soufriere, take the Sir Arthur Lewis St (the same one that leads to the Diamond Botannical Garden turnoff as well as Fond St Jacques and the Edmund Forest Reserve) until you see the car park and signage for this attraction near the bridge on the left.

To give you some context, the drive from Gros Islet to Soufriere was about 54km (taking us about 90 minutes). It was another half-hour of driving very slowly towards the falls. Gros Islet was on the opposite side of the island from the airport some 65km away (or 90 minutes by vehicle). The flight from the Miami International Airport to the Saint Lucia Airport was on the order of 4 hours.
