Lower Nanue Falls

Lower Nanua Falls

The Lower Nanue Falls (or Lower Nanua Falls) is merely the bottommost of the series of waterfalls on the Nanue Stream (or Nanua Stream). It is visible from a bridge on Highway 19 way in the distance in the heavily forested gulch. I believe it's possible to scramble to the top of this waterfall, but that requires an uncomfortable stream scramble downstream away from
Nanue Falls (and not from Hwy 19, by the way!). I didn't go to the top of the falls so I can't say anything more about it.

Directions: The view of this falls is from the Nanue Stream Bridge on Hwy 19 (not the one closest to Nanue Falls) between the 18- and 19-mile posts (about 18 miles north of Hilo). Before crossing the Hwy 19 Nanue Stream Bridge, look for a large pullout area on your left to park. Then walk on the bridge until you're satisfied with your view.
