Known as the friendly island, Molokai (or Moloka'i) offers visitors a chance to get off the beaten path as well as experience a simpler and more laid back way of life. You won't find traffic lights, high rise resorts, nor many shops on this island. Instead, you'll get to experience a more true Hawaii from a bygone era that has (so far) largely escaped the modernization and commercialism seen in the other Hawaiian islands.Technically, Molokai is part of Maui County and is governed as such. However, we're devoting a page to the island as it has enough waterfalls to stand out on its own. Besides, Maui has enough of its own waterfalls. The island features the Pali Coast on the North Shore, which has some of the world's tallest sea cliffs. Nestled within these cliffs are some of Hawai'i's tallest waterfalls. On the East Shore lies the stunning Halawa Valley with its pair of waterfalls (Moa'ula Falls and Hipuapua Falls as well as many others further upstream). Maui visitors can see the island and its tall waterfalls from the air, but the more adventurous can seek out land tours here. There are daily flights to and from Honolulu to Ho'olehua to make a short side trip here feasible.
