Other Lagarfljót Waterfalls

The waterfall near the Kárahnjúkar Dam turnoff

The other Lagarfljót Waterfalls we spotted only scratched the surface of what could've been possible. For we were aware of some massive ones on the Jökulsá River in Fljótsdalur as well as others that ostensibly fall closer to the lake Lagarfljót. Unfortunately, the highly controversial Kárahnjúkar Dam wiped out these waterfalls so what's left is the waterfalls we've put up on this page. As Iceland looks to find other ways to use their land to compete in the global economy, they have tough decisions to make. And thus, there could be other waterfalls going the way of the Fljótsdalur ones in the future.

Directions: This page covers the stretches of road surrounding Lagarfljót, which is Route 91. It also covers the roads further upstream of the lake on Route 933. Unfortunately, it didn't seem like we went much further upstream beyond Route 933 as we were stopped by private property.
