Trollafoss

The best view of Tröllafoss that I could get

Trollafoss (Tröllafoss; I think is pronounced "TROT-luh-foss") was an exercise in frustration as far as I was concerned. I only managed to get partial views of the falls as I couldn't figure out how to safely attain a more frontal view of it. That was because once I had finally found the falls, the steep scramble to get closer to its base looked too dangerous.

As for the walk itself, once we made an executive decision to stop the car (we didn't see any signs), I had to follow the rough 4wd path on foot after following a rough 4wd path all the while listening for the falls. When I finally heard it, I then went off the road and eventually found some primitive trail that ultimately descended towards a gully. However, that was where I stopped because the gully was very steep with dropoffs and I wasn't about to tempt fate.

I suppose had we had a little more time, we might have been able to arrange with the nearby landowners a horse ride and scramble to get to Trollafoss. It just wasn't meant to be during our visit.

Directions: From Þórufoss, we drove south on the Route 48 for about 5.5km. Then at the Route 48/36 junction, we turned right and followed Route 36 for about 10km. We then saw a sign and turned right onto an unsealed road. We continued following signs until we eventually stopped noticing them. I think it turned out that we went 1.4km north then 1.5km east.

Again, I have to reiterate that the last part of the directions on the unsealed road was sketchy because we ourselves couldn't figure out how to get closer to the falls.
