Catarata de Yumbilla is a thin 890m waterfall plunging in several tiers. Although it is said to be taller than Catarata Gocta, only about 600m of the overall drop was visible to us, and its volume was also much less in comparison. We needed to hire a local guide to not only support the locals but also to avoid getting lost or trespassing as the paths were unmarked. The guided hike was along a very muddy uphill trail for about 1.5-hours from Cuispes ultimately ending up at a mirador (viewpoint) of the waterfall (see photo above). The conditions were a bit difficult for us because apparently the area received some pretty heavy rains thereby saturating the trail (which was more like it traversed through someone's farm in the beginning). Thus, we were content to see the falls from the mirador, but we didn't continue another hour downhill to the base of the waterfall. Had we done the whole hike to the base of the falls, the hike would've taken 5 grueling hours instead of just the three that we endured. Directions: It took us about 2 hours to get from Pomacochas to Cuispes. However, some of that time was spent in Pedro Ruiz to stock up on lunch and also waiting for a local guide in Cuispes. So in actuality, we probably only spent about 60-90 minutes on the road to get here. Since we were guided, I can't provide exact directions. Our hike began from the village center.
