The northern North Island regions (encompassing Auckland, Northland, and the Coromandel Peninsula) contain a mix of waterfalls situated near beaches, rainforests, and urban parks. Anchored by New Zealand's largest city, Auckland, you can experience both nature and the cosmopolitan atmosphere conveniently. Moreover, despite the proximity of the area's waterfalls to urban centers, the waterfalls are surprisingly well kept and in many cases unspoiled.
Among the waterfalls in this region's diverse settings, you can see Kitekite Falls near Piha Beach in the Waitakere Ranges, Whangarei Falls not far from the city center of Whangarei, and Wentworth Falls near the beaches of Whangamata.
