AEdnafossen

Ædnafossen

AEdnafossen (Ædnafossen; maybe pronounced "ED-nuh-foss-un") is an interesting fan-shaped (or bulb) waterfall on the western wall of Sørfjorden. While it seemed the fjord was full of mountain cascades tumbling their way to its body of water, I thought this one stood out from the rest given its unusual shape and large size. Now, I'm not even sure if AEdnafossen is the official name of the falls, but it's near some township called AEdna so we'll roll with it.

This waterfall is said to tumble from a height of about 175m, and we were able to see pretty much all of it from across the fjord.

Directions: The photos you see on this page were taken from Rv13 about 7km north of Odda. It was just north of the turnoff for the extinct waterfalls of Tyssestrengene (reportedly 646m) and Ringedalsfossen (reportedly 420m).

We had to slow down and hunt for pullouts, which I think we happened to find on our right (heading north). However, we had to carefully cross the road with the danger of fast moving cars and blind turns to get to the fjord side of the road.

If you happened to be staying in the Odda area and have more time on your hands, I reckon you can walk or ride your bike along the paved pedestrian path between the fjord and Rv13.
