Avdalsfossen was the second major unregulated waterfall we saw in Utladalen (Utla Valley). This impressive waterfall is said to tumble some 175m as it towers over the power lines near its base. We were able to see the falls from various angles as the trail arc'ed across its base in a pretty wide open area. Even though the views seemed a bit distant, maybe it was a good thing because we still felt some spray from the falls while on the trail! We managed to see the falls after hiking say about 15 minutes (1km) into the walk. It's worth noting that near the car park, we saw a Nature House (Naturhus) just on the other side of a bridge. This house contained exhibits and literature about Utladalen, its history, and its waterfalls. We also noticed a spur trail that led to the top of this waterfall and ultimately to the Avdal Farm. I've read that it's a historic 16th century farm recently converted for tourist use so apparently it's possible to stay up there, but we didn't try this spur trail so we can't really comment on it any further. Directions: For directions and other details, see the Vettisfossen page.
