Feigefossen plunges some 218m on the east wall of the bright blue Luster Fjord (Lustrafjorden) towering over the private residences near its base. I believe it's considered the second highest of the remaining unregulated free-falling waterfalls in Norway behind Vettisfossen. We experienced this waterfall in a couple of different ways. The first way as from the west side of Lustrafjorden along Rv55. Near the Høyheimsvik township, we managed to find a place to pull over from the narrow road and see the waterfall in its entirety from across the fjord. Alternatively, we were also able to hike to the waterfall, but this was a surprisingly sweaty affair. Plus, I learned (a little too late) that morning wasn't the best time to see this waterfall. And speaking of hiking to the falls, once we found the car park (see directions below), we actually had to walk for 300m along the county road towards the Feige Valley River (Feigedalselvi) where the official trail started. From there, the path followed the stream steeply uphill passing by a few farms and residences (plenty of signs discouraging trespassing en route). The relentless climb took me about 30-45 minutes each way. Note that I've also seen it spelled Feigumfossen in a sign right next to one that spelled it Feigefossen. I thought it was strange that not even the local signs here could agree on the spelling! Directions: The viewpoint of the falls from across the fjord is roughly 22km south of Skjolden or 30km north of Sogndalsfjøra (this is approximate since the viewpoint we picked was by no means official). However, to get to the trailhead to the waterfall's base, you must drive east on Rv55 from Skjolden for 250m where there's a turnoff leading to south (right). Take this turnoff and follow this narrow county road along the eastern shores of Lustrafjorden for nearly 16km where there's a signed car park for the waterfall near the Feigum township. As mentioned earlier, even though this is the car park for the falls, you must have to walk about 300m further south. Definitely don't walk up the road directly across from the car park as it leads to some private residences. There are also signs nearby the car park pointing the way down the road to discourage trespassing.
By the way, if you're waterfall fatigued, there's another historic stave church at Urnes further south of the trailhead to the waterfall's base on the county road.
