Fotlandsfossen is a tiny but wide waterfall on the Bjerkreim River (Bjerkreimselva). According to our research, the river was known as one of the most bountiful and important salmon rivers in Norway while the falls was merely a side attraction with a salmon ladder allowing them passage beyond the falls. I'd consider this waterfall is either waterfall collectors or anglers, but it's not impressive enough to go out of your way for. From the Fotlandsbakken sign (see directions below), we walked southwards along the east side of the local road until we saw an obvious path leading closer to the river. Aiding our search was that we heard something loud (which we suspected was the falls) so it gave us a little more confidence that we had chosen the right path. After a few minutes of walking through a well-shaded area, we ended up on the rocky banks of the Bjerkreim River with the short but wide Fotlandsfossen in sight. Directions: We were actively looking for this waterfall based on pre-trip notes, but I honestly think this one was a bit hard to find because there wasn't any explicit signs indicating its presence. As a result, we took a real roundabout way of getting to the falls, which hopefully our directions below will help you avoid. From the bustling town of Egersund, drive on Rv44 north towards Tengs for nearly 3km. At Tengs, take a local road following the Bjerkreim River north for less than 1km. Look for a pullout or a shoulder to park the near along the road near a Fotlandsbakken sign. In our June 2005 trip, we had passed through Egersund on the Rv44 but continued on the Rv42. We eventually got onto the E39 then we followed a signed local road leading south towards Tengsedal. That route through Tengsedal left E39 and reached Fotlandsfossen after about 12km.
