Grongstadfossen

Grongstadfossen

Grongstadfossen (I've also seen it spelled Grungstadfossen) is said to be one of the Høylandet municipality's tallest waterfalls at 75m. When we visited this waterfall, there were swarms of wasps at the lookout for the falls. None of them stung me, but it was nerve-wracking to say the least. Even though there was a picnic table there, there was no way we were going to use it at the time. Even Julie didn't dare get out of the car!

So we settled for the partially obstructed view you see at the top of this page, which came from that overlook. I did see that there was a trail leading closer to the river, and I'm sure that would've yielded a better view. Maybe next time...

Directions: The turnoff onto the Rv775 was about 20km north of the turnoff for Formofossen along the E6. Rv775 led about 15km towards the township of Høylandet. While on the Rv775, we really had to watch out for free roaming sheep on the road, especially given the relatively high rate of speed!

From Høylandet, we turned left onto Rv17 and stayed on it for about 0.6km looking for a white "Grongstadfossen" sign and turnoff on the right. We then took the unpaved turnoff and followed it for about 1.3km to the signed car park.
