Hydnefossen is one of those multi-columned waterfalls that look great when in profile (as you can see from the photo above), but doesn't really look like much when seen directly (as you can see in one of the photos below). It's said to plunge some 140m (with 475m cumulative drop) down the prominent 1300m Veslehorn mountain, which probably means more to thrill seekers looking to ice climb the waterfall as the Hemsedal area seems to be more known for winter sports activities. We only spent time to see this waterfall from the road in a couple of spots. However, there did appear to be a walking path that went closer to the falls (and possibly to its top as part of the Veslehorn summit trail). Given its relatively light flow, I reckon this doeesn't last through the Summer. Directions: Hydnefossen is about 7km (between 5 to 10 minutes) south of the resort town of Hemsedal along Rv52. There are no formal pullouts to view the falls, but it may be possible to find one of the turnoffs to temporarily park the car and walk to get a better view of the falls. There is also an inner road (unpaved) closer to the Veslehorn mountain that leaves from Hemsedal and provides access to a trail that goes to the top (we didn't do it though so we can't really say it with confidence). Hemsedal is 19km north of Gol, where Rv52, Mv7, and Rv51 intersect. Gol is 156km north of Oslo. From the north, Hemsedal is 93km southeast of Lærdalsøyri (this was the approach we took).
