Kleivafossen

Kleivafossen seen in the distance with a bridge going in front of it

Kleivafossen is an attractive waterfall seen at about the half-way point (maybe 1km) from the car park to the terminus of the popular (and for good reason)
Briksdal Glacier (or Briksdalbreen). We definitely felt its mist as we passed over the bridge right in front of the falls attesting to how much water was melting from the glacier and draining towards Oldendalen. And in the afternoon that we visited towards the end of June 2005, we saw a little rainbow in the mist.

But this was merely a side attractioin to the beautiful glacier at the end of the walk (about another 1.5km further uphill). In fact, this was one of the big highlights that Julie and I did together for the entire Norway trip back in 2005. Perhaps the only thing we had to complain about was the swarm of black flies that wouldn't leave us alone. At least they were non-biting.

Directions: To get to the trailhead, drive on the Rv60 to the eastern head of the Nordfjord. At the town of Olden, drive south for 22km on the country road to its end. There's a large parking area for walks up to the glacier (or you could pay for a little tram ride to get up there if you want). You can also see Volefossen at this car park.
