Laksforsen is a very wide and scenic river waterfall (on the Vefsna River) found a short distance off the E6 in the Grane municipality of Nordland county. Tumbling some 16m in height, it's one of the more interesting attractions worth stopping for as you make the long drive (or ride if you're on a tour) along the E6, which provides the main access for most of Northern Norway. The falls are very popular as the presence of tour buses, large car park, and shops would indicate. You can see the falls from the top down at the car park, or you can take a steep granite path towards the banks of the river to see the falls from its base. The word "laks," by the way, is Norwegian for "salmon," so you can imagine this place was once a popular salmon fishing spot. The word "forsen" as opposed to "fossen" still means "the waterfall" but you're getting into an area where the mixture of Swedish and Sami influences has an effect on the names of its attractions.
