Linndalsfossen

Linndalsfossen

Linndalsfossen (I've also seen it referred to as Linndalsfallet) is the third of three major waterfalls converging on the community of Åmotan near the Jenstad Farm. I had to earn a view of this mammoth 280m waterfall by doing a fairly involved hike, and for that reason, it was the hardest of the three to reach. But even with that said, I thought the hike didn't take as long as the signs had led me to believe (maybe takes about an hour each way).

For this hike, I started from the first car park. But instead of walking towards Reppdalsfossen and Svøufossen, I went up the hill in the other direction towards Gammelsetra (a hytta or mountain cabin) along the Linndøla River.

The trail was gradually uphill with a few steep and narrow sections on the way. The trail meandered amongst some wooded terrain with a few open spots providing some panoramic views of the general Åmotan area with cascades in the distance. The whole way, I saw those familiar red Ts courtesy of Den Norske Turistforeningen or DNT as trail markers.

Eventually, the waterfall could be heard and I was able to get to an open part of an outcrop providing a frontal view of Linndalsfossen at the head of the canyon across the ravine before me. I didn't entertain going any closer to the falls as I was quite content with the view from this spot.

And I got to look forward to the all downhill on the way back

Directions: Driving directions are given in our Reppdalsfossen page. The first car park is a very short distance before the second car park mentioned on that page. Tolls are required for both car parks.
