The Førde and Gaular Waterfalls are numerous, and these municipalities together proudly proclaim their area as the "Waterfall Country." To back up that claim, there are literally countless waterfalls to be found. However, the majority of them are rapids or small (but powerful) waterfalls within rivers while a few are taller but more temporary waterfalls coming down cliffs.
You can see a great sampling of the waterfalls in the area by driving a loop (what I'm calling the Førde/Gaular Loop or the Waterfall Country Loop) that conveniently begins and ends in Førde and can take as little as a couple hours to a whole day (depending on how much you want to see; we did it in a whole afternoon). There are also a couple of worthy detours such as an out-and-back detour along the Dalsfjord to the west and an intriguing one to the southeast on a trail known for waterfalls called Fossestein.
The most prominent of the waterfalls in Waterfall Country is Huldrefossen, but I've devoted this page to show you a taste of some of the other waterfalls you might find upon a visit here.
Directions: This page covers the stretch of road covering the E39, Rv610, and Rv13 beginning and ending at Førde. Fossestein follows the Rv13 to the southeast of this loop southeast of where the Rv610 and Rv13 junction.
