Reiarsfossen

Reiårsfossen

Reiarsfossen (or Reiårsfossen; I think is pronounced "RYE-ors-foss-un") is a very noticeable tall waterfall that we were able to see from the Rv9 in Setesdal Valley (Setesdalen) in Aust-Agder county. In addition to a roadside car park alongside the Rv9, we also turned off into some camping area where we got a more direct look at the falls. The view from the car park along Rv9 was mostly obstructed by trees so I actually walked further north along the road until I got the view you see in the photo above. The view from the camping area was pretty open and less obstructed, but there were power lines running across the bottom of the scene.

While it was tempting to get to the base of the roughly 200m waterfall, we did not try it. However, I did read that it was also possible to somehow drive to the top of the waterfall (again something we didn't do). But we were happy with our views of the falls.

Directions: From the fall's nearest local township of Bygland, drive north on Rv9 for 17km, which takes you to the farming community of Ose. There were signposts for Reiårsfossen alerting us to the waterfall, which was on the west side of the road.

It was roughly 45km south of Reiarsfossen along Rv9.
