Rogaland encompasses the southernmost of the world famous Western Fjords of Norway. Among these fjords is Lysefjorden (the fjord of light), which is most famous for Preikestolen (the Pulpit) with its flat plateau that suddenly drops into the fjord as well as Kjerag where a rock is wedged between two narrow cliffs. North of this area, you'll find more rugged fjord and mountain scenery in a section known as Ryfylke.
The main city in this section of the country is Stavanger, which rose to prominence with North Sea Oil. This city has still kept parts of the Old Stavanger, and it is a convenient base to explore Lysefjorden and its world famous attractions.
In addition to the aforementioned famous landmarks that are quintessential Norway, this county has its share of beautiful waterfalls. Among such waterfalls is the incredibly beautiful Månafossen, whose thundering flow often generates rainbows in its mist. A visit to this county wouldn't be complete without seeing some of the waterfalls it has to offer.
