Svoufossen

Svoufossen

Svoufossen (Svøufossen or Svøufallet) is another of the three major waterfalls converging on the community of Åmotan. We were able to see this waterfall from a couple of perspectives, and I thought this one seemed to be the most vertical of the three. It's said to have a total drop of 313m where 156m of it is a vertical freefall.

The most satisfying way to see this waterfall was to hike towards its bottom. I basically followed some primitive signposted trails providing limited access through the Jenstad farm affording me closer views of Reppdalsfossen (at least closer than the second car park) before the trail steeply descended beyond the pastures and in amongst trees. I eventually stopped where I felt I had gotten decent enough views (as pictured above), but the trail did continue descending further and steeper. Of course with all that descending, it was a sweaty and tiring climb back up!

Another way I saw the waterfall was from near its top. I managed to do this accidentally by missing the turnoff to the Jenstad farm on the county road (see directions below). Eventually, I ended up stopping at a signposted pullout near a switchback where I was able to look right down at the falls and where Grødøla River meandered towards the Grøva River.

Directions: Driving directions were given in the Reppdalsfossen page. They share the same car park (the 2nd car park; tolls are required for both car parks on the Jenstad Farm).

If you did what I did and happened to miss the turnoff for Jenstad Farm, the county road crosses a bridge over Grøva then goes onto a steep, narrow, but paved switchback road called Snøgutu (Snow Road).
