North Falls is perhaps the second most popular waterfall in Silver Falls State Park primarily because of how relatively easy it is to access. Upon our visit, this waterfall exhibited a more or less double-barreled configuration where the falls splits into a two plumes before plunging 132ft over its overhanging lip. By the way, since the falls plunges over an overhang, it means (you guess it) you can also go behind this one! This alcove for this waterfall is particularly deep and even some trees have grown from within the relative darkness.
From the dedicated car park (see directions below), you can hike roughly 0.3 miles to the falls along a well-signed path. There's a fork in the trail shortly after you cross the bridge near the trailhead. You turn left at this fork to go downstream towards North Falls. Turning right at the fork goes upstream and leads to the Upper North Falls. The trail continues beyond North Falls (after going behind it) and continues as part of the Trail of Ten Falls towards Twin Falls a little under a mile further (though we visited that waterfall from a different approach).
For a different perspective on the North Falls, we checked out the falls from a more distant roadside lookout. From here, you can see the falls in more of its context compared to its lush surroundings, which is something you might not appreciate from the hiking trail leading behind it.
Directions: There is a dedicated car park near the park's northern entrance (barely 14 miles from Silverton) along Hwy 214. From there, you can hike roughly 0.3 miles to the falls. You can continue past this falls on the Trail of Ten Falls towards
The roadside viewpoint of this waterfall is about a mile south of the North Falls trailhead and car park. The roadside car park is nearby the Winter Falls car park.
