Watson Falls

Watson Falls

Watson Falls is a tall 272ft waterfall that took on a wispy appearance when we saw it in late August. We suspect it gets its best flow in late June or in July where the falls takes on a more solid columnar look in its dramatic plunge.

We were able to see the falls from the car park and picnic area. But we made the roughly 0.6-mile uphill hike amongst a canopy of tall trees and ferns. Decent views of the falls didn't start until we got to a footbridge crossing over Watson Creek at about 0.3 miles from the trailhead. Beyond that, the views improved, especially as we got to a spot where there's a bench with an even more direct unobstructed view of the falls (see the photo above). However, the trail continues further up the hill eventually getting near the base of the falls with a more angled view of it. We finished the hike in a loop that eventually descended back down the road, and then we walked down along the road eventually joining up with the crosswalk at the start of the hike.

It's worth noting that about 2 miles further to the northwest along the 138 from the car park for this falls is the famous Toketee Falls. Unfortunately, we were unable to visit that falls due to trail damage from snowstorms that occurred back in January of 2008.

Directions: The car park of Watson Falls is along the Hwy 58 about a half-hour north of the Diamond Lake turnoff and just under an hour north of Crater Lake National Park.
