Punchbowl like Watkins Glen?

The description of a punchbowl waterfall sounds like several of the waterfalls at Watkins Glen. The plunge has carved out a deep bowl in the rock underneath the falls. You can see this in the overhead view: http://homepage.mac.com/randrews4/.Pictures/Waterfalls/050712WatkinsGlen1W.jpg

This punchbowl falls term could also describe the Horseshoe Falls at Niagara Falls and the High Falls at Rochester. In both cases, the pool under the falls is deeper than the height of the falls. These could also be described as plunge falls and block falls.

Thank you for this site. I love waterfalls and look for sites to paint them but it is getting hard as i am very small and 65.

I live near Albany and have been to
many falls within an hour drive. I am considering a trip to the Canadian Rockies.

I loved the Athabasca Falls pictures and may choose Jasper based on that alone. It's hard to make a choice between Glacier Park, Waterton Park, Banff and Jasper. I need something easy to access but more than a one trick pony which is what I fear Banff to be--we are not interested in golf courses and such.

I wish I could go to the Falls in Croatia , the Iguazu, Angel Falls and the tepuis and the falls in Thailand with so many levels.

Big, wide Falls or single strand falls are not as interesting to me.

You are so lucky to have the resources to go to these places while you are young and that both you and your wife are equally keen on it. Thank you for this site. It is quite a gift.
