Trash and Water

by Isabel Lamas
(Commerce, CA, USA)

We have decided to start hiking this Summer to embrace nature and give us something to do. So we purchased a book which lists several hiking trails that lead to waterfalls and such.

We started our hike late which made the ordeal a little more challenging due to the hot weather. The trail takes you through some shaded areas which helped shield us from the sun. As we descended further down the trail, we came across the dry riverbed.

Apparently the river flows underground and reemerges somewhere further down through very thick brush. We had to make our way through the river bed forcing you to climb some big boulders and watch out for the rattlesnakes.

We came across small cascades and pools of fresh water. Further up the trail, we found the main waterfall, but it was pretty crowded.

At the waterfall the water was murky, the rocks were graffittied on, and there was trash everywhere (waterbottles mainly). It was extremely disappointing that people who visit this waterfall would have complete disregard for nature.

I collected three grocery bags full of trash on the way back to our car!!!

Other than the trash and crowd, the hike and the waterfall were exhilirating.

Which Waterfall?
by: World of Waterfalls

Which waterfall were you referring to? Was it Eaton Canyon Falls? If so, it wouldn't surprise me given its very close location to Pasadena.
