Mystic Falls is a pleasant cascading waterfall tumbling some 70ft on the Little Firehole River. We thought this was one of the more impressive waterfalls this side of the Grand Loop Road, and the walk through a geyser basin to even get to the actual start of the waterfall trail was a treat in and of itself. While you can do a very long loop hike encompassing Fairy Falls, we did the more modest 4 miles out-and-back return hike from the Biscuit Geyser Basin (see driving directions below). Basically, we hiked the first 3/4-miles within the Biscuit Basin where we probably took much longer than we anticipated just being mesmorized by the color of the thermal pools and the hope of catching a geyser in eruption here. Right across from the Avoca Spring, the trail official begins.
At this point, the trail gently climbs as it goes through a more forested scene (well, at least as forested as a burnt forest can be) before eventually getting close to the Little Firehole River on which the falls flows. We managed to get a subpar view from near the stream itself before we finally figured out that the official trail continued to climb higher up the steep hill eventually culminating in a nice top-down view of the falls (as seen in the photo at the top of this page).
Julie and I did notice some steam coming out of the upper tiers of the falls, which we reckon has to do with the presence of some geothermal activity in the area. However, we didn't go any further as this viewpoint was our turnaround point of the hike. Directions: The Biscuit Basin is a little over 3 miles north of Old Faithful Village along the Grand Loop Road (between Old Faithful and Madison). The turnoff is well signed and I remembered the car park was pretty large.

We encountered some foul conditions on this day, but this rainbow was the reward for that clearing storm. This was seen downstream from the falls
