The ephemeral "El Capitan Falls" is noticed mostly by rock climbers at Camp 4 or by hikers on the Yosemite Falls Trail.
Due to the falls' somewhat close proximity to the eastern end of El Capitan, I've this waterfall its unofficial name after the giant monolith.
This waterfall marginally counts as a legitimate waterfall due to its short season, but it's on par with some of the other named waterfalls in the park (e.g. Widow's Tears, Staircase Falls, and Horsetail Falls).
This waterfall may even influence trail conditions on the way to the top of Yosemite Falls (see photo below). It's in this circumstance that the flow might be big enough to even be photographable from Camp 4 (see directions below).
Directions: In my experience, the best place to view this waterfall is from the car park to the Sunnyside Walk-in Campground (also known as Camp 4). This campground (which is also the trailhead to the top of Yosemite Falls) is at signpost V5 on the Northside Drive just about 0.3 miles west of Yosemite Lodge.
A rare time when record snowpack (we were here in Spring of 2005 after getting most of Seattle's rain) made this waterfall go over the Yosemite Falls Trail creating a potentially tricky obstacle like this one.
