"Mattie Falls"

Direct view of

"Mattie Falls" is another waterfall that I unofficially named. Ordinarily, I'd disregard (or at least not give special treatment to) unknown and unnamed falls like this, but if it's responsible for flooding the
Waterwheel Falls Trail when it flows, then it deserves some attention.

I gave the falls this name because my topo map suggests that it's sourced by Lake Mattie along with some other unnamed body of water.

On the trail, it's located just before you encounter California Falls nearly 2 miles from Glen Aulin.

This waterfall is one of those good news/bad news types. It's good news for waterfall viewing since it's another tall yet decent waterfall when it flows. However, it's bad news because it tends to flood the trail! I reckon later in the summer, the falls begin to dry up and the Waterwheel Falls Trail is smooth sailing. One more thing I should mention: the flooded section has lots of standing water and that means heaps of mosquitoes as the summer heat intensifies!

Directions: This waterfall is seen on the Waterwheel Falls Trail so you can see either the Tuolumne Falls or Waterwheel Falls pages for driving directions.
