Waterfalls of Yosemite Valley

Wide angle view of Yosemite Valley along the Merced River at the Valley View Lookout

Yosemite Valley must have one of the highest concentrations of major waterfalls in the world. Come here in the spring and you'll be spotting waterfalls left and right. Before you think you've seen them all, down comes another one! Of course, I'll try to highlight some of the more consistent performers in this most-touristed section of the park.

In addition to world famous waterfalls such as
Yosemite Falls and Bridalveil Fall, the valley also features the tiered Sentinel Falls, the streaky Royal Arch Cascades, the ephemeral Horsetail Falls (a favorite with photographers), and the towering Ribbon Falls, among others.

Combine the waterfalls with memorable granite features such as El Capitan, Sentinel Rock, the Royal Arches, and Half Dome (which sits conspicuously towards the head of the valley) and it's no wonder why this part of the national park has been referred to as the "Incomparable Valley."
