Yosemite Firefall and Mariposa Grove Itinerary (3 Days)
This itinerary of our visit to Yosemite National Park was pretty much motivated by catching the natural firefall phenomenon where Horsetail Falls would be lit up by the setting sun in such a way that the falling waters glow red while everything else around back east end of El Capitan was in shadow. This only happens for a few days out of the year in February. You can consult Michael Frye's Photographer's Guide to Yosemite for more details on the precise timing of the firefall. Anyways, seven years earlier, this was a relatively obscure event where Yosemite Valley was still quiet enough for us to hear our echos bounce off the valley walls. But on this visit, thousands of people gathered to see the rare phenomenon. We also brought my Mom and our daughter along so we stayed in a condo in order for her milk to stay cool in a refrigerator. Moreover, we finally visited the Mariposa Grove of Big Trees for the first time in all the years that we've visited Yosemite.
