This itinerary of our visit to Kaieteur Falls was probably our craziest far-flung trip to date. We basically crammed a trip to Guyana (on the northern part of South America) into the long Labor Day Weekend with no work days taken off.
I guess you can say that this trip was a statement of what lengths we would go to in order to see a world wonder like this waterfall.
I’m glad that we took the no regrets attitude to make this happen because you never know when you’ll have another opportunity to do this.
Admittedly, we didn’t get any good sleep starting from Friday night going all the way to Monday morning. And I can tell you that I was pretty much a walking zombie back at work when the Labor Day weekend was over.
In any case, here’s how this trip went…

Trip Highlights
Kaieteur Falls – Of course this waterfall has to be the highlight of the trip since it was the very reason for doing this trip in the first place! And I’d have to say that it was as wild of a waterfall of this magnitude as we were probably going to encounter in the world.
Orinduik Falls – We visited this waterfall on the same day tour as the Kaieteur Falls visit, but this one let us get in the water to cool off and just enjoy a more subtle scenery in what seemed like terrain more fit for a savannah than a tropical forest.
Travel Itinerary
Day 1: Fly to Georgetown
Overnight: Herdmanston Lodge Hotel (Georgetown, Guyana)
This was a long travel day that involved flying to Miami, then connecting in Trinidad and Tobago (with a delay), then we finally arrived in Georgetown for a very late night of shuteye (basically past midnight).
Day 2: Day Tour to the Waterfalls
Overnight: Herdmanston Lodge Hotel (Georgetown, Guyana)
Early morning wake-up to catch the escorted tour where we flew to Kaieteur Falls, then we flew to Orinduik Falls, before flying back to Georgetown.
Day 3: Fly Home
This was a brutal travel day on little sleep back home. Same connections on the way here applied on the way back.
