Waterfalls on the Skoga River
The waterfalls on the Skoga River are so numerous that it was almost overwhelming to me. I counted about 26 waterfalls (23 on the river) not counting Skogafoss.
Gljufrafoss (Gljúfrafoss or Gljúfrabúi) is next to Seljalandsfoss, but it hides behind a narrow slot canyon where the we had to get wet in order to see it.
Gluggafoss (Merkjárfoss) is a roadside waterfall just north of Seljalandsfoss and Gljúfrafoss as well as west of Þorsmörk. It was popular with photophers.
Kvernufoss is the overlooked neighbor of the popular Skógafoss and the Skógar turf farms reachable by an unoffocial hike and scramble to a secluded cove.
Skogafoss probably rivals Gullfoss as Iceland’s most famous waterfall. It has a 60m height and 25m width, easy access, and is Julie’s favorite falls in Iceland.
Seljalandsfoss is a 60m waterfall with a deep alcove that allows you to go behind it. Its conspicuous presence along the Ring Road means you can’t miss it.
