Emerald Pools Falls are reached by a trail from Zion Canyon Lodge or the shuttle stop. The falls cascade ordinarily at two points over an alcove in the sandstone which also overhangs the trail. These are the Lower Emerald Pools Falls. The trail proceeds behind the waterfalls and on up to the top of the lower falls. About halfway on that portion of the trail you have a view of the lower falls and the waterfall which appears to be shooting out of the sandstone cliff because you’re viewing it at an oblique angle. That is the Upper Emerald Pools Fall. On a visit to these falls when it was very windy the lower falls were blowing upwards by the wind and appeared like smoking campfires.

The World of Waterfalls has been to this waterfall, which you can read about here.
