Although I have never been to Angel Falls I do have a connection to them.
My father and our family lived in British Guiana during the 40’s and 50’s. My dad was a government negotiator for part of that time and we lived on Atkinson Field, a former American air base.
It was during that time that Jimmy Angel, the man who discovered and named the falls, was a frequent guest at our home.
As a matter of fact he once took my sister up in his plane for some sight seeing. He cut the engine which caused my sister a great deal of anxiety until he restarted it. When they returned, Jimmy Angel thought it was great fun however my sister had other thoughts…
I remember him telling us about how he discovered the falls…
His name is so appropriate for these falls as they really are like angels. Had his name been Brown?…
