When you climb the rock leading to the waterfall it is called mixed climbing. Panther Falls is home to some of the worlds hardest mix climbs taking the underside of the alcove. That is why those rockbolts have been hammered in there so the suicidal iceclimbers don’t crater and splatter!
No, there are no animals looking for shelter in this alcove in Winter, not that I have noticed (apart from rock-rats)
