Pools at the top of Cascade Fautaua

submitted by Steve on September 26, 2015

This post was in response to Cascade de Fachoda

Duuuuude! You missed the 2 pools right at the top of the Cascade.

Continue a short way past the walls of the fort and bear right. There is a steep hill that had a rope rigged when I was there (2012).Before going over the falls the stream dumps into 2 beautiful deep rock pools that are right out of any South Pacific adventure advertisement. There were a number of locals there when I visited, but it’s a large enough spot to accommodate a couple dozen people no problem. After that hike up it is perfection.

Rock diving from 6 feet (2 meters) to about 25′ (4 meters) into clear cool DEEP water. Connecting the upper pool to the lower is a stone flume that is smooth and slippery. World class water slide.

The lower pool is RIGHT AT THE TOP of the cascade. If you sit on a well placed stone seat you can hang your head right over the falls and look doooowwwwn the cascade from the exact spot where the water spills out. It is a long drop! One of the coolest things I did in Tahiti, and it’s a short bus ride from Papeete. Take the Fautaua bus from the main terminal.
