A tumultuous, high-volume set of cascades along Colorado State Route 14 on the Cache la Poudre (“cash la pooder” locally, “pooder” for short) River.
In fact, it’s remarkable they escaped being tapped for hydropower in the early 20th century, particularly with all the waterworks elsewhere in the Colorado Rockies.
If traveling westbound, Poudre Falls are on the right a bit more than mile past the Tunnel Picnic Area and some 55 miles west of Fort Collins.
If eastbound, they’re on the left about a mile past Big South Campground and trailhead.
The falls are signed and there is parking alongside the highway. The only hiking involved is scrambling for better views on some use paths!
