This itinerary covered part of the second major leg of our epic around-the-world tour that consisted of Eastern Australia as well as selected countries of East Africa.
This was an independent self-tour of Victoria Falls while based in Livingstone, Zambia (as there was a political situation going on in Zimbabwe).

I’ve opted to break out each section of the individual Africa safaris (including this mini excursion) as I feel they each can be accomplished individually.
Here is how we managed to pull this trip off…

Trip Highlights
Victoria Falls from the Zambia side – Since Zambia had the more politically stable situation during our visit, we had the piece of mind to visit its overlooks without too much commotion. And from this side, we got to see part of the falls edge on though most of the canyon was shrouded in the thick mist due to the high waterflow of the Zambezi River.
Victoria Falls from the Zimbabwe side – Even though it was more politically unstable in Zimbabwe during our visit, it was clear that the majority of the vistas and the tourism infrastructure was on this side. Unfortunately, due to that political situation, we had limited our time on this side to only a day trip, but there’s so much potential for more under more benign circumstances…
Travel Itinerary
Day 22: Fly from Sydney to Johannesburg
Overnight: Southern Sun OR Tambo International Airport (Johannesburg, South Africa)
On this day, we caught a long flight from Sydney to Johannesburg to begin our African safaris portion of this around-the-world trip. This was purely a logistics day as we had to wait until the next day to catch a flight to Victoria Falls.
Day 23: Fly from Johannesburg to Livingstone
Overnight: Chanter’s Lodge (Livingstone, Zambia)
Continuing with the travel, we flew to Livingstone. Once we checked in to our accommodation, then we hailed a taxi and walked to the Zambia side of Victoria Falls.
Day 24: Day Trip to Victoria Falls
Overnight: Chanter’s Lodge (Livingstone, Zambia)
In the morning, we taxied back to the Zambia side of the Victoria Falls. Then, we caught a ride back to Livingstone, where we did a helicopter overflight of the falls before doing a rowdy sunset cruise.
Day 25: Day Trip to the Zimbabwe Side of Victoria Falls
Overnight: Chanter’s Lodge (Livingstone, Zambia)
On this day, we hailed a taxi to the Livingstone Memorial Bridge, where we then walked across to the Zimbabwe side and visited Victoria Falls from that side.
Day 26: Fly from Livingtone to Lusaka
On this day, we ended our Victoria Falls part of the trip and flew to Lusaka to start the Zambia Safari part of the around-the-world trip.
