Waterfall Safety and Common Sense

The Bo Ghe Waterfall (Thác Bồ Ghè) was one of many swimming hole waterfalls in the mountains between Hue and Da Nang (in this case, it was in the Bach Ma Mountain Range).

Indeed, we felt the heat and humidity firsthand when visiting Central Vietnam during our late April 2025 visit (especially in the touristy spots in both Hue and Hoi An) so it made sense why such swimming holes were in demand.

While there were quite a few spots like this (e.g. the Elephant Spring near here as well as both of the Suoi Mo Waterfalls), this place really gave me Oum-er-Rbia vibes.

That’s largely due to the presence of canopied sitting areas besides the stream responsible for the Thac Bo Ghe Waterfall.

It’s possible to rent out sitting space or have a primitive local dining experience right besides the stream (pretty much like how we had tagines at Oum-er-Rbia in Morocco).

Add to that the fact that the stream also featured swimming-friendly areas both at the base of the main drop of the Bo Ghe Waterfall as well as further downstream.

The waterfall also featured a couple of upper tiers that our Da Nang guide and I were able to climb further upstream above the last of the covered shelters for a closer look at them.

Speaking of experiencing the waterfall, we paid 90k VND for the four people (or 22.5k VND per person) and the walk to the main waterfall was a mere 400m round-trip (or 700m return for the uppermost waterfalls).

Our visit only took about 50 minutes in total, but a large part of that visit was spent chilling out at the falls (so I think it be done in as little as 15-30 minutes or longer if you choose to linger or have a meal).

While this place didn’t seem to be known to foreign tourists during our mid-morning visit, we did share our time with a large group of young people who came here on motorbikes.

It seemed strange to see them while school was supposed to happen, which made me wonder if they were ditching or perhaps waiting for their turn to attend school (as they apparently stagger attendance into morning and afternoon groups).
